RUMII FOR ROLE PLAY SIMULATIONS
"Role playing techniques have been used in therapeutic contexts, conflict mediation, restorative justice, and many other fields. In each of these fields, different practices are proposed to help participants visualize events and conflicts from the perspective of others. These practices use physical dynamics (e.g., changing seats with another participant) and narratives related to real life (e.g., reporting on conflict from the protagonist’s point of view) to provide multisensory experiences." (Bertrand et al., 2018).
SIMULATED SCENARIO
The following video is a screen recording of our simulated role play experience. After watching it, join in the discussion and give your thoughts on how environments like Rumii might support soft skill development.
Reflecting on Immersive Virtual Reality |
Take a moment to reflect on what you have learned so far, and how IVR technology can be used for soft skills training. Use the following prompts to guide your discussion. Remember to include your name in your post.

How do you think the embodied experience can change/alter a person’s perspective?
How does conflict resolution in a space like rumii compare to face to face in an office, or through an email thread? How does meeting in a space like rumii compare to other forms of meeting like face-to-face, conference call, video chat? Would you be more, or less, open to voice your thoughts in a virtual space as opposed to in the office? We chose to demonstrate a conflict resolution scenario. Can you think of other scenarios that might be effective in a virtual space like Rumii? |
