WHAT IS VR, AR, AND MR?
VR, AR and MR are all acronyms of immersive experiences that allow users to either fully enter a virtual world, or experience virtual overlays in a real-world setting. While all three immersive experiences allow the user to interact with digital artifacts, they each do so in different ways. To learn more about each of these immersive experiences, explore the video and summaries that follow.

Augmented Reality (AR) overlays computer-generated content onto the real world.
The user is able to superficially interact with the environment in real time. AR is primarily experienced through smartphone applications or a wearable glasses device. Common examples of Augmented Reality technology includes Pokemon Go, the Housecraft App, as well as Snapchat or Instagram filters. |

Mixed Reality (MR) is a form of augmented reality.
MR merges the real world and the digital world together into one interactive experience. This technology augments the real world, while also bringing in artificial elements; physical and digital objects co-exist and interact in real-time. Mixed Reality technology is still relatively new, and is evolving every day. Microsoft's Hololens 2 is one of the leading players in the MR market. |
